  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gently stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  6. Roll the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut out biscuits.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned.
  9. Sprinkle in 1/4 cup of flour and stir for about a minute.
  10. Slowly add in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened.
  11. Serve warm biscuits topped with sausage gravy.
